W 98se sudden skittish auto-clicking cursor
Anyone else encountered this or know what to do?
Suddenly mouse/cursor becomes incredibly skittish, the slightest movement setting it careering all over the screen, apparently right-clicking (possibly double-clicking & dragging) on everything it passes so my screen is filled with unwanted open windows & dialogues within seconds & my taskbar in the wrong place or hugely expanded etc. I can close them all with the Close Prog dialogue, and unplug/replug the mouse, but the only solution appears to be a reboot. |

How clean is your system. See the "Security" article linked in my sig.
Have you tried a different mouse? (And I suggest you *not* unplug or plug in a mouse while the system is turned on. Does no good and might do harm.) -- Gary S. The mouse & keyboard are the ones with moving parts, & they are
"hooked", meaning tasks will run each time you touch one. Therefore, with the computer off, unplug the mouse & hold by it's tail until it may stop spinning & squawking. Also, open & clean the ball & rollers. That is not a design you may see on the rollers-- it is a band of dirt running round the center! Also, unplug the keyboard, turn it round & spank it. I did plenty of THAT, when I suffered erratic mouse movements & ultimate mouse freeze. Unfortunately, I more/more dimly recall, there were still one/two freezes AFTER the last cleaning. STILL, it is good to get the gook out of there, I think. (Not sure, really, what it was that cured me.) -- Thanks or Good Luck, There may be humor in this post, and, Naturally, you will not sue, should things get worse after this, PCR "Karl Engel" wrote in message om... | Anyone else encountered this or know what to do? | Suddenly mouse/cursor becomes incredibly skittish, the slightest | movement setting it careering all over the screen, apparently | right-clicking (possibly double-clicking & dragging) on everything it | passes so my screen is filled with unwanted open windows & dialogues | within seconds & my taskbar in the wrong place or hugely expanded etc. | I can close them all with the Close Prog dialogue, and unplug/replug | the mouse, but the only solution appears to be a reboot. |
