Default Removing Network Password Prompt Box during Win98 Bootup

Hi,
I installed a NIC card on my Win98se Compaq Armada 110 laptop, and
configured networking (thanks to "98 Guy"s procedures) so I can use this
laptop with my Verizon DSL modem. Note: I have no interest in LAN.

ISSUE:

Every time I power up my laptop, I get a "Enter Your Network Password
for Microsoft Networking" prompt window. I press Enter to finish booting up.
I looked in my "Windows 98 Resource" book and "Windows 98 Secrets" book.
The Secrets book, page 702, says, "You can log onto the network without
seeing a logon box if you disable user profiles", but does not explain how you
disable "user profiles". The Resource book, page 1452, says, "To disable
user profile on a local computer..... In Control Panel, double click Passwords
and then click on User Profiles tab. Click All users use the same...".
However, that is already selected.

FYI:

I have installed NIC cards on two other different brand Win98 laptops for
the purpose of using the DSL modem, but I don't have this issue with them.

Does anyone know how I can get rid of this password prompt box from
popping up?

Thank You in Advance, John

If you right-click on the network neighborhood icon on your desktop, and
select properties, you will see "The following network components are
installed:" and a list of objects (Client for Microsoft Networks, your
eithernet adapter, etc).

Under that list box, you will see buttons for Add, Remove and
Properties.

Under that, you will see "Primary Network Logon:"

I don't recall if I told you what setting to use there, but on my
computer it is "Client for Microsoft Networks". In my case, I have
"Tweek UI" (a control panel applet) which automatically performs the
network logon for me.

In your case, you do not want to use the setting "Client for Microsoft
Networks". You want the other option listed in that drop-down box -
Windows Logon.

Now at this point you will be asked to re-start the computer. You can
do that, and you might still be asked for a password the next time the
system starts, and I think that if you just hit enter at that point
without entering a password then the password prompt will go away and
you'll never see it again.

Alternatively, you can answer "no" when asked to re-start the computer,
and follow the instructions on this page - starting with step 4:
