Default Scan engine fault

Hi
Please excuse the ignorance of a novice. When starting my machine I often
get a blue screen with "Scan engine initialisation failed and the press any
key to continue instruction followed by a box tellimng that the NTL antivirus
protection has failed.
Is this a fault with the anti virus software or Windows or my hardware?
I have re-installed the NTL netguard package several times but only achiev a
temporary solution to the problem.
Any suggestions will be much appreciated

The problem is with your AV application rather than Windows. It appears
that you AV applications is failing to load. I've no idea what AV
application is provided by NTL. Is it Win Me compatible? Is it up to
date?

As an NTL user I'll leave it to you George to continue with this thread.
:-) It's not an app I'm ever likely to be downloading and running myself.

I had been using the free NTL Netguard software for some time without
problems so assume it is ok with my set up. I have redownloaded it several
times which seems to clear the problem for a while.
I guess my best bet is to try to get advice from NTL though based on past
experience this can be a long-winded affair.
Your sdvice is appreciated. Thank you

Alan

I seem to recall having a brush with this programme on a friends
computer, a while ago, the outcome of which was to uninstall it.

A quick look round the Internet came up with this:
http://www.sciencebase.com/science-b...-netguard.html

My advice is exactly the same as the authors:

AVG (free) for Antivirus
Zone Alarm for a firewall

Links to these are provided on the webpage.

If you feel that you must persist with this programme,
then the only advice I can offer is to get in touch with NTL,
and hope that they can help resolve the issue for you,
as it is not a WinME specific problem.

Good luck

George Gee

My advice to you would be to uninstall
