Windows Me updates
PS: Irene, did you disable your anti-virus application before installing the
updates? -- ~PA Bear PA Bear wrote: Xpost to WinME newsgroup. You needn't have renamed the file download for WMP update 828026. That being said, may I ask if you've ever reinstalled WinME without first having uninstalled IE6? Have you ever uninstalled /any/ version of Windows Media Player via Add/Remove Programs or Add/Remove Windows Components? When I click on remove and then scan for updates the same two come up again saying I have two critical updates waiting. I copied and pasted the file into my Drive C: into the Windows directory but when I am in safe mode and type C:\KB837009.EXE/N:V it says it is not found. I apologize for all this but what did I do wrong? Assuming you do have a file called kb837009.exe in the c: drive and it is not under any subdirectory in that drive, then you would appear to have the file at C:\ (that is, the root--meaning there is no subdirectory involved.) So, the only apparent error from what you have given us is not leaving at least one space between the file name (which is a program name) and the program's switch. Try copying and pasting into the Run... dialog: C:\KB837009.EXE /N:V (two spaces inserted between the program name and its switch for clarity) paste Irene wrote: It is probably my fault but anyway first of all when I went to the Microsoft website to download the KB837009 file. Try the following to resolve the 837009 problem: Clear History, delete Cookies and delete Temporary Internet Files (including offline files) via IE: Tools Options General, then... 1. Download the Cumulative Security Update for Outlook Express 6 Service Pack 1 (KB837009; all OSS) from the following link, saving it to your Desktop: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en [ Optional: 2. Restart the computer in Safe Mode. (During the reboot, keep pressing the F8 key until the Windows Startup menu appears Choose Safe Mode Enter.) ] NB: Do not double-click on the downloaded file to install it cos it won't work! 3. Rename the downloaded file to KB837009.EXE and copy it to C:\ (the root directory of drive C; assumes drive C is the boot drive). 4. Start Run type or copy/paste the following into the box: C:\KB837009.EXE /N:V Press [ENTER] 5. Close the command window. 6. Reboot [into Windows] and then check in at Windows Update to see if the problem persists. ================= Try the following to resolve the 828026 problem: 1.
