If you are trying to install W98 over the top of the existing system, the
key you are inputting may not match what is in the registry. If so, open the registry editor (regedit.exe) to this key (folder) and see what is listed in the right pane for the entry ProductKey: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion -- Regards Ron Badour, MS MVP for W98 Tips: http://home.satx.rr.com/badour Knowledge Base Info: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?pr=kbinfo "Heero139" wrote in message news well, i am trying to install windows 98 on a computer, but any key i input, including the original key included with the disk, are, according to setup, invalid. The key is 25 (five groups of five) alpha numeric digits. You have to be
careful about 0 (zero) and O (oh), Z and 2, etc. -- Regards Ron Badour, MS MVP for W98 Tips: http://home.satx.rr.com/badour Knowledge Base Info: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?pr=kbinfo "Heero139" wrote in message ... i am installing on a blank hd "Ron Badour" wrote: If you are trying to install W98 over the top of the existing system, the key you are inputting may not match what is in the registry. well, i was very careful about that, i also tried many keys, none worked. could it possibly be that i am not using a 98 boot disk created in windows 98? or could it be that i have a burned cd?

install key problem?
If you are getting to the point where you can enter the product key, the
floppy start up disk is obviously working correctly. The only other thing I can think of is that the product key you have is not correct for the version of Windows you are trying to install. Call MS and get them to issue you a new product key: 1 800 642-7676. -- Regards Ron Badour, MS MVP for W98 Tips: http://home.satx.rr.com/badour Knowledge Base Info: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?pr=kbinfo "Heero139" wrote in message ... well, i was very careful about that, i also tried many keys, none worked. could it possibly be that i am not using a 98 boot disk created in windows 98? or could it be that i have a burned cd? If you are using a burned disk, don't bother to call MS as they will want
info that you don't have. -- Regards Ron Badour, MS MVP for W98 Tips: http://home.satx.rr.com/badour Knowledge Base Info: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?pr=kbinfo "Heero139" wrote in message ... well, i used the key that came with the disk mine was copied from.. im gonna see what i can do, and if i cant get it to work i will call microsoft "Ron Badour" wrote: If you are getting to the point where you can enter the product key, the floppy start up disk is obviously working correctly.
