Default Copy verification

Is there a way to tell W98 to perform copying with verification, similar to
the -v switch for xcopy?

True, the COPY *command* has the /v switch. But how do I tell the Windows'
copy operation (the one available in a window menu, along with paste) to use
verification?

Specifically, I'm using Send To to copy a (nested) folder to a Zip disk. I'd
like it to be done with verification. (My understanding is I can't use xcopy,
because it doesn't preserve long filenames.)

XCOPY preserves long filenames just fine when it is used in a DOS window..

When you boot direct to DOS the operating system (and therefore any utility
you might run) does not understand long filenames.

If a filename contains a 96H, xcopy doesn't work (nor does copy). But Windows
copy does. Interestingly, dir displays the 96H as "_". I would suspect there
are quite a few characters that xcopy (and copy) won't handle. So, I am back
to my original question, which is How does one specify a copy with
verification to Windows.

You may need to look for a Windows copy utility - I have never needed one
and I can't recommend any.

XCOPY from a DOS window should be able to copy any file, however you will
have problems identifying the file to copy if the filename contains strange
characters. Because DIR displays it as _ doesn't mean that a _ in the copy
command will identify the file correctly. You can use wildcards to avoid
this naming problem.
