minor mouse problem

Yes, and I'm the disabled user. I've been using Jaws for Windows for 5 yrs on this box and it has never done this before. From my fairly limited experiences with Jaws, I would doubt that it would have any influence on your mouse button problems. I'm at a loss from this distance as to what could be causing the issue other than a faulty mouse (heat related? - but that wouldn't really explain a reset on re-boot). Substitution of the mouse would be my next recommendation and if no improvement, a long painstaking exercise in trying to pin-down exactly what operation you are doing (and application(s) running, etc.) when the mouse buttons fail to react. That - I guess - would probably mean a sighted person working with you until you can locate a common theme. Sherlock Holmes - eat your heart out g A fairly standard, cheap ps/2 mouse *should* plug and play with WinMe without the need for special drivers - special features, such as a wheel or extra buttons may need mouse specific drivers to control them correctly. But the standard two buttons normally work correctly with the default MS drivers. Good luck Mart "SSJ04 Mewtwo" wrote in message ... Yes, and I'm the disabled user. I've been using Jaws for Windows for 5 yrs on this box and it has never done this before. When removing the device and rebooting the PC I would need the "eyes" of someone else when ME tries to find the mouse's software. It's just easier for someone to remove the hardware and then reboot the machine to let the OS find the mouse again while I supervise. If I were to tell Jaws to startup on next boot, it would slow down everything. -- Listen to the best rock station on the net. http://www.megarockradio.com |

minor mouse problem
Thanks to all for the help. To add to the problem it seems to be somewhat
intermittent. It seems to be noticeable when I get off the machine and someone else gets on and clicks on one of the desktop icons the mouse doesn't respond to the command. I would get it if the cursor couldn't move either. This particular also has what could be called a very small joy-stick between the buttons that acts like a scroll wheel. minor mouse problem
"SSJ04 Mewtwo" wrote in message ... Thanks for the input. I'll inform the other users of this machine that that is the only solution. Hm, I'm guessing that when it is trying to find those driver files they should be on the hard drive and not on the WinME CD since the driver seems to be a generic driver. The first thing to check is software conflicts. Did the mouse used to work properly? Did you install any new software or updates, or start using any new programs, about the time the problem started? If so, try removing them and see if the problem persists. As Mart said, generic mice typically work fine with the drivers that come with Windows, but the next thing to try would be a new driver. Newest drivers are generally obtained from the web site of the hardware manufacturer. New PCs typically also come with a special disk for drivers that should include one for the mouse, which should also work. If a new driver doesn't fix it, you'll probably want to replace the mouse. If a different mouse has the same issue, it's most certainly a software conflict. If you can reproduce the problem with a different mouse, different driver, and after removing any software that could possibly conflict, worst case you might need to reload the operating system. |
