control panel
Is it possible to disable control panel or to remove the
icon (s) from the display to keep students at school from changing preferences and display settings? How would this be done in Win 98? |

Poledit doesn't work because it doesn't list all of the control panel
applets. Only a few. Ingeborg's idea doesn't work because I would then have to write scripts that would move files around based on who logs in. Registry entries would be best. Thanks, Brad "PCR" wrote in message ... Sounds like Ingeborg has an idea for that. (But don't let him assimilate you!) Also, I haven't got this & don't know how specific it gets, BUT... I've seen the policy editor mentioned a few times and anyone with computer sense can
get past its policies as well. I used it in my earlier days on 98SE and removed it once I found there were ways around it. -- Brian A. I don't know the answer, then. Working on Ingeborg's suggestion,
perhaps... (1) Turn off the Control Panel for everyone. (2) Detect who has logged in. (3) Provide a folder on the Desktop containing shortcuts to the appropriate .cpl files. I do believe the Desktop is specific to the User who has logged in. That takes care of step (2), actually. http://support.microsoft.com/default...48&Product=w98 Description of Control Panel (.cpl) Files -- Thanks or Good Luck, There may be humor in this post, and, Naturally, you will not sue, should things get worse after this, PCR "Brad Reichert" wrote in message ... | Poledit doesn't work because it doesn't list all of the control panel | applets.
