How to make sound w/o sight?
I have both Win Media and d the Creative stuff that came with my
modest sound board (Sound Blaster 16pci 4.1). At the moment, clicking on a .WAV file or a pointer icon to one causes the player screen to appear and the sound to be played. Is there a way to make the sound without any screen display? I'm trying to make the cash register sound when the system is completely loaded and ready for instructions. "Start Windows" comes too soon. My method is to put a copy of the .WAV file last in windows\start Menu\srograms. It makes the sound at the right time, but how can I prevent the Win Media screen from appearing? -- R. N. Winamp has the ability to disappear while playing sound if you minimize it. I've found that versions past 2.9x tend to be resource hogs, even the new 5.x. To change songs while it is minimized you would have to have the Winamp Agent running. www.winamp.com -- Sincerely, Andrew H. Carter |

Instead of putting the WAV file in the programs list, put a shortcut that
starts your wave player, and includes the required wav file as an argument to the program. For medial player 2 this would be: "C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\mplayer2.exe" /play /close C:\Window\Media\Ring.WAV Then set the shortcut properties so that the application runs minimized. -- Jeff Richards MS MVP W95/W98 "Dick Wisan" wrote in message ... Perhaps you have Media Player options set for repeat play.
-- Jeff Richards MS MVP W95/W98 "Dick Wisan" wrote in message ... Thanks, both. Winamp does the trick, either way, but Media Player won't go away, even with /play /close and the shortcut set for "run minimized". Jeff Richards says...
