Default Can't Change Desktop "Screen Area" in Display Properties from 640 X 480 to higher setting

Hi Buffalo,

There was no "place" in the display properties to check or change the
display refresh rate on this Global PC.

I downloaded the Trident display Win98 driver from
http://members.driverguide.com, but it didn't "work". After a reboot, the
display driver was no longer Trident's, but Microsoft's 2 or 16 colors, set
at 16 colors. Even at 16 colors, I was unable to change the Screen Area
from 640 X 480 to a higher setting.

Note: Before doing this, I had backed up the WINDOWS "tree", so
I had not trouble restoring it to the way it was.

Hi,

I was given a Global desktop PC with Windows 98se. In the
Display Properties, "Settings" tab, I am unable to change the "Screen
Area" to a higher setting (stuck on 640 X 480). I have no trouble
changing "Color" resolution from 256 Colors, "High Color" (16 bit),
or "True Color" (24 bit). I tried "High Color" but I still could not
make it change.

Note: This has a Trident display driver.

Thank You in Advance, John

PS, If you reply via email, remove "ine" from my email address

Check the refresh rate in display properties (rt click on a blank spot in
your Desktop and select properties) and go through it.
If you don't have the latest video driver, find it and dl it to a location
you will remember.
Uninstall your present video drivers and reboot and install the new drivers
for your vid card.
If there are no newer drivers, uninstall the old ones, reboot and install
the drivers again.

In Display Properties, select Advanced (lower right) and then you should
find an Adapter tab. Click on it and then select Properties and then go to
the Drivers tab and you should be able to select which drivers you want to
install. To get rid of the present ones, select 'show all' and then choose
(it's been a while and I can't remember exactly) Standard VGA drivers and
install them and then reboot. (These will be the MS default drivers).
Upon reboot, don't let 98 install it's standard drivers.
Now go back into Display Properties, Advanced, Adapter,Properties, Drivers
and install the latest correct video drivers for your card and then reboot.
Go back into Display Properties and you should be able to change the 'screen
size' and the color bits and the refresh rate (under Adapter) and then close
out and reboot.
If you know which Trident vid card model # you have, you can check to make
sure you have the proper Drivers.
