Default Windows 98 Logo FREEZE

HELP PLEASE,

My computer will not boot up, it freezes at the WIndows 98 Logo screen.

I have tried booting in "Safe Mode" (which it attempts a self registry
scan stating "An error has been found in your system files and restored
a recent backup of the files to fix the problem, press ENTER to
restart".) Upon pressing ENTER the Windows 98 Logo stares me in the
face once again.

Also, I have tried "Safe mode command prompt only", allowing me to do
what it just did. I typed;
C:\ cd windows\command
then; scanreg/restore
It has about 4 succesful "Started" choices. I've tried them all -
leading straight to a Windows Logo failing to move on.

Any help anyone?
