Broadband connection
I am currently getting the following error message when I try to connect to
the internet: The telephony subsystem required dial-up networking to shut down. Restart your connection by double clicking the connection in the dial-up networking folder. BT say its windows problem, can anyone advise ? |

Presumably, you're using the Voyager 100 USB modem?
Do you have Call-waiting enabled on your line? - if so disable that, and see if things improve Also, check that you have filters on ALL used phone sockets. -- Noel Paton (MS-MVP 2002-2006, Windows) Nil Carborundum Illegitemi http://www.crashfixpc.com/millsrpch.htm http://tinyurl.com/6oztj Please read http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm on how to post messages to NG's "Frsutrated" wrote in message ... It is BT Voyager USB Modem but no model number on it. Call waiting is not a
service we have and all the sockets have filters fitted. I have tried the connection with all other sockets disconnected completely and changing the filters in case one was faulty. Thanks for your prompt reply. "Noel Paton" wrote: Presumably, you're using the Voyager 100 USB modem? You may have a virus/spyware hijack
download the Stinger from here and run it to make sure that A-V-disabling viruses are not present on your PC http://vil.mcafeesecurity.com/vil/averttools.asp - update your virus scanner and run a full system scan of all files. download AdAware SE Personal Edition from www.lavasoftusa.com, install, update, and run it to remove spyware, adware, and other such nasties from your system. See what that reports, and give us details - you may need to go into some depth to remove diallers from the system - Also check your Internet Properties | Connections entries for any unknown diallers -- Noel Paton (MS-MVP 2002-2006, Windows) Nil Carborundum Illegitemi http://www.crashfixpc.com/millsrpch.htm http://tinyurl.com/6oztj Please read http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm on how to post messages to NG's "Frsutrated" wrote in message ... Thanks for your help. Have downloaded both those programs and will run them
tonight when I get home. Excuse my ignorance, where do I check my Internet properties/Connections for any rogue diallers ? Can I remove them simply should I find any ? |

Open Internet Explorer - click on Tools, then Internet Properties
look in the Connections tab - see what's listed and remove any that are obviously not what you're expecting there - list any others you find in your response (If you're not sure, don't remove anything - just list them in your response!) -- Noel Paton (MS-MVP 2002-2006, Windows) Nil Carborundum Illegitemi http://www.crashfixpc.com/millsrpch.htm http://tinyurl.com/6oztj Please read http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm on how to post messages to NG's "Frsutrated" wrote in message ... Have run Stinger and clean files 27441.
Have run PC Chillin and no viruses Adaware found 6 MRU files and quarantined Internet Properties shows BT Voyager ADSL Modem Connection default Have run the diagnostic check on the modem and the interface and modem pass but the line fails. If I connect the modem through an USB Hub I have connected then I get conneted to the internet but Internet Explorer will not work properly and although I don't get same error message, the connection does break off after about 5 minutes. |

Have run the LSPfix and problem still remains exactly the same.
Surely this is a modem or line error ! Time to chuck the computer and buy a new one. |

If it's a line error (which is possible) then a new PC won't help - try
phoning the BTO helpline - they've been pretty good with line faults for me. - make sure that you tell them that the modem diagnostics point to a line fault. If it's a modem error, then a new PC won't help either! - because the modem isn't part of the PC. -- Noel Paton (MS-MVP 2002-2006, Windows) Nil Carborundum Illegitemi http://www.crashfixpc.com/millsrpch.htm http://tinyurl.com/6oztj Please read http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm on how to post messages to NG's "Frsutrated" wrote in message ...
