Default Running WIN98SE with 4GB DDR and RAID

If only one 1GB chip of physical RAM is installed,
WIN98SE boots up without any problems. If I add a further
3GB of RAM chips (paired), then WIN98SE complains that
there is insufficient memory. Trying to resolve this by
specifying MaxPhysPage=30000 - or any other value - in
system.ini does not help: WIN98SE boots up, but the
applications (e.g. Norton Antivirus) then say there is
insufficient memory. Is there a fix for this, or can
WIN98SE not run on motherboards with 'striped' RAM chips?

Secondly, I'm hitting problems with chip-controlled RAID
drives under WIN98SE - even with all the RAID drivers
installed. Is there any way of forcing WIN98SE to check
the BIOS, instead of bypassing it and trying to access
the hard drives directly?

Thanks for any advice on how to reconfigure WIN98SE so it
can work with the latest hardware.

Zippy,

Thanks for pointing me towards MaxFileCache etc. (article
#253912). I did not know about these system.ini parms.

I'll try out these cache parms next weekend (too busy
during the week).

I do realize that 4GB is too much for Win98SE. But I'm
multi-booting - including Windows XP, which has no
problems with 4GB of dual channel RAM installed - so I
need to get Win98SE to work with that.

Thanks again for your help.

Paul
