Default Windows 98 Logo FREEZE

HELP PLEASE,

My computer will not boot up, it freezes at the WIndows 98 Logo screen.

I have tried booting in "Safe Mode" (which it attempts a self registry
scan stating "An error has been found in your system files and restored
a recent backup of the files to fix the problem, press ENTER to
restart".) Upon pressing ENTER the Windows 98 Logo stares me in the
face once again.

Also, I have tried "Safe mode command prompt only", allowing me to do
what it just did. I typed;
C:\ cd windows\command
then; scanreg/restore
It has about 4 succesful "Started" choices. I've tried them all -
leading straight to a Windows Logo failing to move on.

Any help anyone?

Could be one or more of your system files had become corrupt. One way
this can happen is if the file is residing on a bad sector that hasn't
been marked bad. Run Scandisk full surface scan. This can take a very,
very long time depending on how big your HDD is. If Scandisk finds a
bad sector it will mark it bad. If there is a file residing there it
will attempt to reallocate it to good space. Sometimes that can fix the
problem.
