Antivirus TO: WEBSTER72N
There is nothing wrong with 'Avast' and it is quite recommendable. If you screw up your registry, it is your fault and noone else's. Mike gave you instructions on how to fix your mistake and there's no need whatsoever to 'suck up to him'. He simply has the knowledge. And 'SGB' didn't look 'female' to me, therefore the assumption, with my apologies. Regardless whether you'll listen to it or not, my recommendation is to make Avast work. To create one's own System CheckPoints doesn't present a problem at all. I should be the one laughing, but instead I'm enjoying a smooth working machine. Harry. "There is always hope in tomorrow". "SGB" wrote in message ... I took me a while to post this reply, because I had to be able to type through all the tears of laughter after I read your posts. Harry, you are so sucking up to Mike and the icing on this cake is your sentence should read "She just may be able to figure it out by/for herself. You are the one that advised me Avast was a good anti-virus program, but you neglected to give me all the details in your first post. You mentioned nothing about System Restore until later in the thread. "Heather" wrote in message ... To put this politely, don't ask Harry how to fix anything. He specializes in breaking stuff. (G) IOW, he could quite conceivably give you the wrong advice. HF I remember sometime ago, Heather stated something similar to the above. I should have kept it in mind. "If it were me, I would reinstall Avast completely, making sure it's registered and all." You go, Harry! Considering you are not qualified and ASSume wrongly, I would not place my trust in you, again. However, I take full responsibility for taking you seriously. You are way too funny. SGB "webster72n" wrote in message ... He just may be able to figure it out by/for himself. If it were me, I would reinstall Avast completely, making sure it's registered and all. Then, if things shouldn't be right, uninstall it again, as you said. But it's his decision to make, as you also said. Now I must get ready for bed. Nighty Night |

Last I heard, Joan (and I don't need it anymore, having gone for the two
year three licence deal on NOD32, so haven't checked in months) is that Grisoft had extended support for 7.5 until Dec 31st. That change was too late, here, and anyway I'd never trust Grisoft again. I remember thinking, myself, that 7.5 was about to end, and that 8.0 was no longer free, thanks to the pop-up spam they sent. Others with less computer savvy than you and I bought 8.0 before finding out that a free version was still available. And, for chrissake, AVG 8.0 retail costs more than NOD32! However, Avast! is not very good. For free it is better than nothing and free or not it is better than Norton and McAfee, but it doesn't do particularly well in tests that reflect the real world. It requires responsible surfing and clicking too - but then they all do, don't they. Thanks Shane, I haven't bothered looking but as I said that machine is only
really turned on about once a week to keep it up to date so will keep an eye out for when it finishes being updated and find another one for WinME. The machine does get used occasionally by John when he wants to transfer photo's from Photobucket to one of his forums, the guinea pig ones, so I do have to make sure it works OK g Hope your OK I'll give you a ring sometime soon for a chat -- Joan Archer http://www.freewebs.com/crossstitcher http://lachsoft.com/photogallery "Arturo Seis" wrote in message ... I just wish I could remember for once and for all that I *don't need Millennium any more!* Truth to tell the main reason I reinstall it, when I do, is I did so much work on the Real Mode I think I ought to keep it handy (though I have it on Memory Stick anyway, so that argument falls flat). I do get to run the 9x NOD32, which feels worth doing *because I can*... will keep an eye out for when it finishes being updated and find another one for WinME.
