I have this shortcut that keeps popping up on my desktop
It has tha microsotft windows logo with a ~ in the box
below as a name. Type: File, Location:C:windows\desktop
MS-DOS Name: ~
Any ideas??

It started happening after a particular microsoft update.
It is a backup of your address book

I would run the updated latest versions of Ad-aware from
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/ and Spybot from
http://www.safer-networking.org/ and, if necessary use
HighjackThis from http://www.spywareinfo.com/ which has a
support forum that can provide you with the assistance to
use it properly.

It is a known bug in IE. Just delete it. I think the problem will go away if
you go to Windows Update and download / install the critical updates.
