Default Does it work or doesn't it!!

Remember when I asked about the external harddrive which didn't say on
the box, or inside or anwhere, that it worked on win98?

Today I found something worse, I guess.

An ad from a vendor of leftovers, buy.com, for a Sandisk 8 Gig flash
drive:

Available in 4GB, 8GB, 16GB and 32GB capacities
Intel Pentium PC or Macintosh computer with USB support
Windows XP, Vista (U3 and storage)
Windows 2000, Mac OS X v10.1.2+ and Linux (storage only)
USB 2.0 port required for high-speed transfer
Requires high-power USB hub port

Here, it itemizes the OSes that the U3 will work with.

And then it itemizes OSes that will work only for storage. I have a
Sandisk 8 gig flash drive and it works fine on win98SE. It has for
years. Of course you have to install your own driver, but loads of
hardware accessories come with CD's with required software.

My used winME IBM Thinkpad came with a USB port, and I think it
originally came with win98. They wouldn't have included a port if they
hadn't included all the software to use USB.

The only thing a flashdrive vendor would need to do is include a CD,
or give a url where the little piece of software could be downloaded.
Or just say it runs on Wn98 computers with working USB ports, on
USB-enabled WIN98SE.

This is why you can't relay on what computer folk say, or just about
anyone.

BTW, I still like Sandisk and wouldn't buy another brand of flash
drive. For one thing, the U3 is great. But even when another brand
gets U3, I'd still prefer Sandisk.
