IE problems
Ok, been researching my problem. It appears that IE is
corrupted. I cannot use the IE search engine at all. Some web pages do not load (ie blue or white pages only no text or pictures) Most web pages load ok. Macromedia does not load completley, and I cannot download from the ms download page AT ALL. I've been able to download Adaware and spyware blaster, no problem. Ran both, nothing detected. I have been runing EZ AV and firewall. Is my next step Hijack? Is there a way to access and print your favorites before reinstalling IE?? |

Anti virus on access scanners generally look for attempts to change system files, and attempt to prevent such alterations. Unfortunately, that means that their well-meaning efforts to protect you against viral infection may also cause a legitimate installation to be corrupted. Next time you try and repair the MSIE installation, make sure you turn off the anti virus on access scanner first. -- Norman ~Win dain a lotica, En vai tu ri, Si lo ta ~Fin dein a loluca, En dragu a sei lain ~Vi fa-ru les shutai am, En riga-lint |

No one responded to my original question. That's why I
posted again. And I'm not talking about my double post yesterday, that was a mistake, I meant to hit follow up. I'm sorry if I've offended your sensabilities. I don't see a "turn off" button for EZ virus. Just uninstall-- I'll email them for help. What about my question about saving favorites? Is there a file that I can print out with favorites or do I have to write them all down??I'm assuming that when I am able to repair/reinstall IE it will overwrite favorites. BTW MS should add a line on their download page about disabling your AV program if it is a problem, don't you think???? Thank you for your patience. -----Original Message----- In article , Pat says... Ok, been researching my problem. It appears that IE is corrupted. I cannot use the IE search engine at all. BTW MS should add a line on their download page about
disabling your AV program if it is a problem, don't you think???? It tends only to be Norton's seriously defective AV application that causes such problems although there are some reports of McAfee users also experiencing problems. I also use Computer Associate's eTrust or EZ AV and have never needed to disable it when visiting the WU site. However to disable real time scanning right click on the icon in your systray and click Snooze Real-Time protection (I'm running v6.2). Earlier versions have a similar option, if not there is a disable Real-Time Monitoring option instead. -- Mike Maltby MS-MVP Pat wrote: No one responded to my original question. Pat,
I see you also asked about saving your Favorites. This isn't a problem at all. All you need do is locate the Favorites folder (by default C:\Windows\Favorites although you may have moved it elsewhere) and copy it somewhere "safe", each Favorite being a separate file which is an Internet Shortcut to the site concerned. I copy my Favorites from PC to PC here whenever I install a new machine or operating system. Best of luck in repairing IE or whatever else is need to resolve your problems.
