Unable to install WIN98 SE
New P4 Celeron computer - I get through installing all setup files from CD
but the computer hangs when it reboots (before loading hardware drivers). The error message says: "Invalid VxD Dynamic Link Call to Device 3, Service B. Run the Setup program again to correct this problem." I've done the setup several times but I always get the same results. Checking MS's Kb library says my System.ini file may be blank --but it isn't blank? What else can I do to complete the installation? I'm at a complete loss... -- Dan-O-FLA |

If you are installing from Windows, try it from Dos. Restore the P&P setting after several good boots after the install. Bill, I tried switching the Plug & Play settings in BIOS without any luck;
however due to my many reinstalls, one of my memory modules failed. When I removed the failed module, I was able to complete my Win98 SE installation. successfully. Do you have any idea how the two events affected each other? Dan, The failed memory module and the re-installs may have been a coincidence. People do many re-installs all the time with no memory fails. The memory had to be a problem from the start or the first install should have completed. As far as P&P is concerned, if the BIOS manufacturer has not registered it with MS then it might not be registered in the Windows Machine.inf file and Windows could get confused during the Hardware phase. Changing the BIOS setting very often fixes that. Glad you got squared away, nice work.
