Default display problem

My neighbour has a win98 machine that was/is riddled with nasties and
behaving badly.
Ad-aware found over 1100 which have been quarantined (I hope).
The problem now is, the display keeps defaulting to the lowest settings
(640x480, 16 colours) even when they are changed via the display
properties dialogue box.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Winz

Do you mean as soon as you select a different color mode
it changes back? Or when you reboot? Does it reboot when
you change the color mode? It could be that you have the
wrong drivers installed. Try reinstalling your display
card/video card drivers again.

Yes, when I change display/color mode, it reboots back to the low
setting.

Computer + Kids + internet = chaos!

(email sent by wayward finger) apologies.
