Default Getting Error when Upgrading to IE 6.0 SP1

I'm helping someone upgrading to Internet Explorer 6.0
sp1. During the installation process we got the following
errors: A previous installation has pending work requiring
a reboot. You need to restart your computer to complete
that installation before running internet explorer setup.
Setup will now close."

We research error on the Knownledge Base and found this
article http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?
scid=kb;en-us;309314&Product=ie600

thsi did not resolved the problem.

We deleted the Windows update folder and cleared the temp
folder. We ran the isntallation again. It was about 75%
complete when the installation fialed again. New error
meessage "unable to load files please close and resume
installation".

I got free help from MS on the "For Fee Help Line" because
it involved upgrading IE problem. The guy tried a number
of things and finally had me change (2) .dll files to .old
.. Tried so many things so fast I couldn't write them down.
Then had me re-install IE5.5 from the Dell disk, do the 5.5
patch, and then upgrade to 6.0. In the re-install there's a
question at end about wanting new or old settings and I
think I chose new but remain confused. Ask if U call MS.

I am experiencing the same problem. I tried downloading
several times and finally gave up. I ordered the CD and
now it's doing exacting what you state. Did you get any
answers or resolution? I can't update Windows or anything
else until this gets fixed. Also, Windows explorer has
been having errors and shuts down. Some websites are
unaccessible also, but I think this is because I have IE
5.5. HELP!

I must be stupid, this is the third time I'm trying to
post here and it's not appearing! I thought Microsoft
techies were giving responses to our questions here. Am I
wrong?

Mark, I have had the very same problem as you. I could
not download IE upgrade as it cut out when downloading, so
I ordered the CD and the same thing happened that you
describe. What's a person to do?

Thanks!
