Unable to play Videos
Hi:
I am unable to play media videos off the internet, I get the following message 'Unable to access this media, you may not be connected to the network'. I am sorry but I do not have a clue what it is talking about since I have no network. Could any one help me, I must have a blond streak. tx, Brian |

Other programs flat out say one is not connected when it is another problem. Some times all the program knows, or chooses to find out, is whether there is input. Then it uses the same message no matter what the reason. Whenever you ask a question, you should give more information than you have here. What OS, what program are you using (not everyone in the world is a total slave to Microsoft), what version, did it used to work, if so, when, what changes have you made to your system recently? What is the url from which you are trying to download the media? Have you tried others at different websites. Have you rebooted, a cold restart, and anthing else relevant? Anything else Could any one help me, I must have a blond streak. tx, Brian Meirman If emailing, please let me know whether or not you are posting the same letter. Change domain to erols.com, if necessary. |

-----Original Message----- Hi: I am unable to play media videos off the internet, I get the following message 'Unable to access this media, you may not be connected to the network'. You did not give much detail/specifics here, but i'll try to help. I run w98, WMP 9, IE 6. I had the same/similar problem. Error message :Windows Media Player cannot play this file. Connect to the Internet or insert the removable media on which the file is located, and then try to play the file again. Solution; uninstall "Quicktime* if you have it. Use a good registry cleaner to remove the entries that are left. (This may not be required -but it worked for me.) Open WMP tools/options. Check "connect to internet ..overrides.." Apply. Hit link again. May get a configuration utility trying to access 'net, allow it (this applies if you use a firewall). At this point mine played, and I was then able to uncheck WMP tools/options "connect.." so i didn't permanently alter my WMP settings. You might need to reboot (although i did not). |

You should know that internet media files are mostly playable by
"RealPlayer". If you want to play them offline, you should download the media fies from internet. (right-click on the address link and select "save target"). But if you haven't downloaded the video file, don't expect it to be plaid back offline.
