Default Ddhelp.exe & Gdi.exe cause general page fault while opening msn.co

Problem began while in msn.com; friend logged in for her email. While
logging out,
the message below came up and I continually receive this message when
attempting to open msn.com. [NOTE: This ONLY happens while opening msn.com,
not on any other search engine!]

MESSAGE IN WHITE BOX:
DDHELP caused a general protection fault
in module GDI.EXE at 0001:00001bef.

Subsequently I downloaded updates for video and sound cards from Gateway,
downloaded Internet explorer 6 Sp1 [new installation after trying to repair
the original without success] and still the message comes up when attempting
to open msn.com.

Installed another driver for my monitor [Nokia 445X], video and sound card
updates, updated to Directx v9, opened System Info and activated
DirectX Diagnosis tool. Loaded slowly; then I saw 2 windows had opened.
Tried to close one of the windows and rec'd this message:

Try installing the latest version of Directx. The files you mention are all
related to that:

I already updated to DirectX 9.0; that was listed in my original communication.
Thank you for offering, though!

Thanks for the suggestion, Sandi, but I had already updated DirectX to
version 9.0...
that was listed in my initial communication. I appreciate your
suggestion...can you
suggest anything else? Marie

Thanks for the suggestion, Sandi, but I had already updated DirectX to
version 9.0...
that was listed in my initial communication. I appreciate your
suggestion...can you
suggest anything else? Marie

The only thing I can suggest is a corrupt cache; especially considering the
fact that only one site is involved:
