Invalid Application Data
hello all,
I am running win98se and recently got bombarded with all sorts of trojans and parasites, thankfully they have all been removed. Since then I get a small dialogue box stating "DSC invalid application".(this is only on reboot/startup) It has an ' ok ' button which when clicked removes it but brings up one of those ' this program has performed an illegal operation' dialogues (which also has DSC written in the heading). I click on the x then it disappears and the computer runs fine. Anyone got any idea what may be going on? Like i say, the computer runs fine after getting rid of them. thanks for replies jane |

It is not clear whether you have on the hard drive DSC which does not run or whether one of your startup or SYSEDIT files calls DSC which is not on the hard drive. (1) Search the hard drive for this app and remove or rename or segregate it if found. (2) Search SYSEDIT files or Registry for this bogus file call and remove it. -- Don Phillipson Carlsbad Springs (Ottawa, Canada) |

Don Phillipson Carlsbad Springs (Ottawa, Canada) hi don..... i had a similar scenario myself before my crash (have since totally installed new OS) and never knew what it was. If she finds and removes as you have pointed out, will it also take care of the ' illegal operation ' dialogue that follows? just curious g/h |

It was a 1.3meg .exe that had placed itself in my isp dial-up folder. It is in a few places in the registry according to a search i did with regalyzer but i'm not too sure about messing around in there. Anyhow, I cut and pasted the .exe onto a floppy and re-booted and I dont get the Invalid Application dialogue and neither do I get the Illegal Operation one that followed. Is it okay to leave the registry references as they are; its not like they are refering to anything now? thanks for help jane |

But since you are sure this is a bogus file you can remove all Registry keys that call it. (Save the Registry first, in case you prefer to restore it.) -- Don Phillipson Carlsbad Springs (Ottawa, Canada) |
