Default AVG problem

For the first time, an AVG 6 Free installation is giving me problems. The
program installs without a problem but will then not display the data file
reference or the AVG version no and reports that it out of date. However,
It took one update and then reports that the data file is up-to-date and
there is nothing to download. However, the basic program still reports that
the data reference file is out of date.

I installed a new download, uninstalled it and installed an older download
that I have used on several computer. Same results.
Of course there is no tech support for the free version. Has anyone else
had this problem.

Computer is a clone running Windows 98SE, 128 megs of Ram and lots of free
hard drive space.
We have rebooted a number of times and the program will not recognize that
it has been updated with the latest reference files.
We even did a manual download of the files and put them in the "update"
folder.

Default AVG problem

One solution:
http://www.my-etrust.com/microsoft

From what I hear, AVG has been slipping a bit.

Default AVG problem

If the update files are dated *after* todays date, they will show as "out of date"
although they are not, and will not be when the date catches up.

If that is not the issue in your case, I suggest uninstalling AVG, re-downloading it
fresh, and reinstalling it with all background apps closed.

Default AVG problem

Did you download it from Grisoft?
Why I ask.
My boy,on his machine, downloaded AVG(was suppost to be
Grisoft)from kazaa. It looked like AVG but did the same as
what you are talking about. From the effects of tons of
viruses and trojans. I had to format and reload the OS.
This time I,myself, went to Grisoft and downloaded it. It
worked just fine. Recognized the updates and everything
else it was suppost to do.

ppoatt, some of us were wondering: Did your son download AVG *from* Kazaa or
*using* Kazaa?

The download may have been legit but the install/performance corrupted by
other crap downloaded (knowingly or not) using Kazaa. Is Kazaa still
present on the machine?

Default AVG problem - Problem solved

The computer clock was set to the year 2033. This gave the right day of the
month, but no matter what update I gave it, it was always more than 14 days
old. Reset the calendar and AVG now works great.
