Windows startup issue
How can I access the files that appear on the Startup tab
of the System Configuration Utility (msconfig)? I'd like to remove the files I don't want to have start up with my computer from the available choices. I've found that my computer works better if I uncheck some of these items but if I perform a clean boot to install software or in any way access msconfig, they either become all checked or all unchecked and I have to start all over. This means I have to remember which ones I should uncheck and my memory isn't that good. I can't find these files listed in any of the startup menus or in the registry files. I don't have a winstart.ini file. Thanks |

Windows startup issue
Check them in Msconfig and then remove them. from where they are
loading from. The places Win9x uses to load at Startup: -the load= and run= lines in the win.ini, -the [386Enh] section of the SYSTEM.INI (.386 and .vxd files), -the Startup folder, C:\WINDOWS\Start Menu\Programs\StartUp -the AllUsers folder C:\Windows\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup -the registry keys (in order of likeliness) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Run HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\RunServices HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Run HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\RunOnce HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\RunOnce HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\RunServicesOnce HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\RunOnce\Setup HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\RunOnceEx (last one not Win95) ....Alan -- Alan Edwards, MS MVP W95/98 Systems http://dts-l.org/index.html In microsoft.public.win98.performance, "curious" wrote: How can I access the files that appear on the Startup tab of the System Configuration Utility (msconfig)?
