Wow, that is a lot of Registry programs.
Thanks for the link.
PS: Now I can really 'screw' around/up my Registry. :-)
Actually I still use RegClean,RegCleaner,OleClean and EasyCleaner and haven't
messed it up yet.

Try Regseeker.
http://www.regseeker.com/
I use Regclean, EasyCleaner + Regseeker.
No hassles.
Download the .zip file and the run regseeker.exe after applying WinZip.
I'm not sure why, but an 'extract' to a folder leaves the program without
the necessary option boxes on screen.

Damn, I forgot to put that in the list and it is my favorite one. Another brain

2 more cents for the jar ...

Besides good ole regedit, one I use is RegCleaner 4.3.0.780 by Jouni
Vuorio. If you do, however, note that it's very powerful and sorta
scary for a first timer to use.

I've tested Reg Mechanic and think it's very good, but among the "do
all/fix all the Reg Fixer in Meijenix (now VCOM) FixIt all the way back
to Fixit 2000 was hard to beat. I think they're up to Version 6 now.

2000 was good, 3 & 4 were junk, but 5 & 6 are again good programs.

I also use the same version of Jouni's RegCleaner and I use it last. It rarely
finds anything that the others didn't.(not that I don't trust it, it really does
a super job and perhaps I will make it my one and only)
Never used FixIt, but thanks for your input.
I am getting more leary of the registry cleaners all the time, because the more
I understand Win98SE, the more I realize I don't know enough about what should
and shouldn't be deleted in the Registry. :-)

I need a really good backup program so that I can reinstall my 'whole' system
within 1/2 hr or so, just in case.
I do have Norton's Ghost program and just bought a DVD burner (2 layer + no -).
I do have a backup on the same HDD, on a different partition.
I have an old Maxtor 8.4GB HDD and perhaps I will try that just for my 'main'
stuff backup.

RegCleaner finds ALL program pertinent entries, but you must be careful
as it's Reg Entry referenced (Key), so you may have more than one
program contributing to one entry. Deleting that key will wipe them all
out, even the ones you don't want deleted.

Always right click an entry and look at the expanded info before
deleting anything with Reg Cleaner ... but, more powerful, you can't
get.
----------------------------------------
The FixIt series of tools was (maybe IS) one of the best I've seen,
particularly When OnTrack(Mejenix) had it. After they sold it to VCom,
it suffered a bit (Ver: 3 & 4), but appers to be back on track (no pun
intended) now.

As with many multi-purpose tools, lots of what's there isn't needed or
used much, but their Registry Fixer was among the best and safest
around.

If you can get an old copy of FixIt 2000 somewhere, it will do all you
need about as well as the latest (V:6) from VCom.

For backups, Ghost is good, particularly the 1996 version (I forget the
number right now) and 2003.

2003 is available all over the Usenet, but you don't need the whole
Norton package .. just the Ghost Exe (about 1001 Mb).

Format a bootable floppy and put your mouse driver on it first.

Then copy over Ghost.exe.

When you boot to the floppy, you'll only get the "A:" prompt.
Type "Mouse" (enter - or whatever starts your mouse),
then Ghost (enter).

I know .. you could make a batch file to do these two simple typing
tasks, but I just have always preferred to type them in one at a time.

With Ghost 2003, you'll first get a screen offering to "Mark Your
Drives for Ghost Use".

Do NOT do this. Click on "Continue without marking the drives".

You'll then get where you can select Local/Drive to Drive or Partition
to Partition.

I use and recommend Partition to partition.

You select the source drive and partition and then the destination
drive and partition. Getting into this habit is good for when you
finally have partitioned drives and is the safest way to go.

To use this, make the blank drive (you'll be copying to) a slave.
Geberally this is by a jumper addition or removal, depending on make.
With a Maxtor, you remove all jumpers to make a slave.

Connect the drive into the cable chain at the middle connector along
with a power cord and you are set to go.

With this configuration, you'll be cloning from Drive 1, partition
Primary to Drive 2, Partition Primary (first partition to first
partition).

I wrote this on the fly and in a hurry, so I hope I didn't confuse you.
If so .. I'll be back later and will straighten out anything I've
goofed up.

Good luck ...

Appreciate the info.
I presently have Ghost2003 from the NSW that I bought.
