Default My Keyboard and Mouse are dying on and off

Hi Noel
:
Jan - the file is
C:\windows\s3setup.log

Here is what was in the log. What could have prevented it from installing?
I had the AV off, and nothing else was running. There were no instructions
with the file, not even a Readme, nothing. Should I try to install from Safe
Mode?

S3Setup v1.00.16-JV (1.01.06) on Win ME
bAllowReboot: TRUE
bSilentReboot: TRUE
bPromptReboot: TRUE
bPromptSilentReboot: FALSE
VendorID to find:5333

INF File Located at: C:\PROGRA~1\HEWLET~1\S3WISHLD\ps5333ut.inf
No S3 display adapter can be detected.
- Setup was unable to complete the installation. Check the progress log in
your Windows directory for more details.

keep getting an error that says that the install could not take
place, and to see the Windows Progress log for details. 'Cept....I
have no log called Progress log that I can find. I ran a Search for
it and I can't find any log file by that name. ?? So...now what,

Hmm - got almost identical error message when I ran the installer on my
system (with an ATI card installedg)

OK - back to basics - install Belarc or Everest Home/AIDA32 - see what they
report as the display card.

Well - that explains why you can't install S3 drivers, doesn't it!g
AIDA32 - under Display|Windows Video
go to the link for the Video Adapter Manufacturer and get their latest
drivers.
post back with the results of your search - then install the drivers

gotta go to work now

nVidia driver use a different log file - but I can't find out where at
present....
What error message do you get??
Boot to Safe Mode, and remove ALL Display Adapters and Monitors from DM
there, reboot and see what loads.

FWIW, here's the instructions from the fileset for ME

Windows Millennium Edition
--------------------------

To prepare for installation of the drivers

1 Start Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition.

2 Click the Start button, point to Settings, and click Control Panel.

3 Click Display, and click the Settings tab.

4 Click Advanced, click the Adapter tab, then click Change.

5 Click Specify the location of the driver (Advanced), click Next, click
Display a list of all the drivers in a specific location, so
you can select the driver you want, then click Next.

6 Select Show all Hardware button, then select the Standard display types
from
the Manufacturers list.

7 Select Standard PCI Graphics Adapter (VGA) from the list, then select
Next.

8 Click Next to install the driver, then click Finish.

9 Click Yes when Windows asks if you wish to restart the computer.

Windows should find files for your NVIDIA graphics chip. If Windows

What gets me is why it took an email to bring the response -
surely it should be on the website?(or is it just
well-hidden?)

'k......I'm back...but, without the install. It won't install.
I keep getting an error that says that the install could not
take place, and to see the Windows Progress log for details.
'Cept....I have no log called Progress log that I can find. I
ran a Search for it and I can't find any log file by that name.
?? So...now what, Chief?
