Default Virtual memory...

My main hard drive has 80 (nominal) gigabytes. It is partioned into a
primary of a bit less than 8 GB, the remainder of roughly 72 GB is in
a logical drive on an extended partition. There are about 50 GB free
on the latter.

I was looking at Win98's virtual memory options in System Information.
The logical drive above is shown as having -13535 MB free. All other
drives are reported correctly.

Can anyone explain...
1. Why the number is negative?
2. Why it isn't the correct amount? I'm guessing it has to do
with subtracting a large number from a smaller one but don't know.
Could be that being incorrect and negative *IS* correct for all I know

If the reported size of the drive is not correct, how do I get it
correct?

Thanks much.

It is a harmless error and requires a hot fix that you may not be able to
find
since MS no longer distributes them:

Where? MSInfo32? Do you mean on the General tab? Then, highlight the
data of interest (hold CTRL or SHIFT as you click lines), & use the Edit
menu to copy/paste it here. Mine shows no negatives there...!...

Windows-managed swap file on drive C (6655MB free)
Available space on drive C: 6655MB of 7979MB (FAT32)
Available space on drive D: 6698MB of 7979MB (FAT32)
Available space on drive E: 7301MB of 7979MB (FAT32)
Available space on drive F: 7493MB of 7979MB (FAT32)
Available space on drive G: 7779MB of 7979MB (FAT32)
Available space on drive H: 7792MB of 7979MB (FAT32)
Available space on drive I: 5976MB of 6174MB (FAT32)

If you are seeing negatives, maybe try a reboot, just to see whether
Windows needs to renew its count of free bytes in the MBR area.

Solution:
Add in system.ini under [386Enh]
ConservativeSwapfileUsage=1

succes.

What does that have to do with the problem at hand? It's not a Virtual
Memory problem, and certainly not the one you cite. It's a problem with the
VM applet misreporting the size of a hard drive. Harmless and not worth
worrying about. Only fix is a hotfix that you can't get from MS anymore.
