Default Upgrading from Windows ME to XP home edition

I purchased my pc a few years ago and it came with Windows Me. A couple of
years ago, I upgraded it to Windows XP home edition. Well the pc crashed and
I had to reload the system disks that came with it – the Windows Me disks. I
tried to do the upgrade to XP and it keeps stopping and saying I need to
remove the following blocking softwa Microsoft Shared Fax Server. Well I
cannot locate this software on my pc and therefore cannot remove it. I have
tried ‘add/remove’ programs, I have tried searching for it on the C and D
drives but I cannot find it. How do I remove this software so I can complete
the upgrade to XP home edition?

I could not find "Windows Messaging" in the Add/Remove programs. Do you

or
does anyone else have any other suggestions about this issue?

I realize Mike said "if found", I was letting him and others know that I did
not find it and therefore need further assistance with this issue. Does
anyone know how I can find and remove the "Microsoft Shared Fax Client" from
my pc that currently has Windows ME on it? This piece of software (shared
fax client) is preventing me from upgrading to Windows XP home edition. Is
there a support phone number I can call to get help with this. I checked the
MS support page, but they indicated they no longer support Windows ME.

START, CONTROL PANEL, ADD OR REMOVE PROGRAMS, if you don't see what you need
to remove scroll down until you see it. I don't really know if it will be
there but just a suggestion. I'm computer ignorant. But if this helps would
you let me know cause I may need it soon.

Find someone that has a full version of 98 or Me and do a clean install
of XP. When you go to install it, it will request media to prove you
have 98 or Me and you just stick the 98 or Me CD in and it checks it and
then continues the install. You will lose everything doing this so back
up anything you want to keep first.

Actually, I have talked to a MS technician and after several attempts, we
finally ended up booting from the XP upgrade disk and had to reformat the C
drive. Thankfully, I do regular backups and this was not a problem. I was
then able to get XP back on my pc and all is working fine now.
