Default upgrading Win95 to Win 98 on a ThinkPad

I'm trying to upgrade Win95B on my IBM 760C (old machine) to Win 98. I have
the Win 98SE disk. I get an error message from W98 setup that I need to
upgrade to another 98 version before going to SE.

This will be a very close thing in any event because of the machine's
limitations. It only has 40mb RAM, and a 1.6 gig HD. Already tried to upgrade
to Millenium but was advised by setup I need at least a 150mhz chip.

Is there an update file I can download to make W98 install work?

Appreciate any suggestions.

Wes

Do you have an upgrade disk, an update disk or an OEM disk. I am betting
that it is an update disk in which case it can only be installed over a
functioning copy of W98.

Ron,
Thanx for the comeback. Is there any way to tell which of the three my disk
is? Curious that it goes all the way thru the install process to the very end
before it decides it won't work.
I know for certain it is not an OEM disk.
Thanx again.

Look on the CD and see exactly what it says. If that is no help, what is
the **exact** message that you received when you tried to install it?
