Number of switches - 100BaseT
Ethernet timings dictate a maximum (and minimum) cable separation between
nodes. This is also reflected in the number of switches (or hubs) permitted between nodes. I can find details defining this for 10BaseT networks but not for 100BaseT. Can anybody help with details of maximum number of switches? Apologies if this is not the right newsgroup for this. My recollection is that the limit on hubs is five levels. Frankly, I try to keep switches within that limit, too, since you're going to have some latency associated with each, which can affect performance. Besides, 5 levels allows a LOT of devices (enough to overflow the tables in the switches, which is another issue, BTW). But I could be wrong -- I haven't studied it closely. -- The e-mail address in our reply-to line is reversed in an attempt to minimize spam. Our true address is of the form . |
