Default "Find" Files and folders.

Is there anywhere offering tips
on "find" topic discrimination searches?

Within a Database of Images 80,000
If I seek an image I know to be "Sydney Harbour"
Is there a way to locate the scan, without also
farming every "Sydney" and every "Harbour" as well?

Thanks.
I did post a query last evening, it seems not to have arrived.

Tips would depend what utility you use to search,
and possibly on the image file format. E.g. PFIND
(component of Fix-It Utilities) is more powerful
than Win98 / start / find / file.

Thanks Don,
I have ZTree Gold, but was hoping to secure
some depth of Win98/start/find
I find it a zip to launch whilst image farming.

Default "Find" Files and folders.

From "Windows 98 Secrets" (Livingston/Straub), pp. 316-318:

1. Search for multiples by separating by commas in "Named" or
"Containing text" boxes. Semicolons work too.
2. Search multiple roots by separating by semicolons in "Look in" box
3. Question mark (?) stands for one character
4. Asterisk (*) stands for multiple characters
5. Will search for files in hidden folders if "Show all Files" is
checked in "Folder Options, View tab". (May as well uncheck "Hide file
extensions..." too.)
6. Will not find the fonts in the Fonts folder if the "Look In" field is
set to "\Windows" and not to "Windows\Fonts"

There are many examples in the book that show in practice things can get
hairy. You need to experiment. I've noticed that if I enter "readme" (no
quotes), I get 61 matches. But if I enter "readme.*" (no quotes), I get
only 39.

I find that

(1) "exit to dos.pif" is found.
(2) "exit to*.*" is found.
(3) But "exit to dos" is NOT.

So, if you use quotes, looks like you must type it all including file
type, or include *.* within the quotes.

Yay!
PCR you're my main man!
Havn't tried them yet, but a good start,
I'll go now and start kicking tyres.

The "good guy" medal is in the mail.
