Default Start up problems

Everytime I turn my computer on it loads everything as
normal and I have all the icons on my desktop and then it
just hangs there trying to load some programs. The only
way I can seem to fix it is by doing Ctrl-Alt-Del and
ending the programme that is not responding. A lot of the
time (but not all of the time) it says it is Explorer that
is not responding. I'm sick of it - any ideas would be
appreciated
Thanks
Bev
