Default Win98SE and Netgear WG111

I am attemping to install a WG111 which is a USB device. The Netgearwizard
seems to load the driver OK. When I plug in the USB device Win98Se detects
the device OK. However the wizard does not then complete its process, i.e. it
doesn't offer to configure the device.

Using device manager the WG111 adapter is shown to be not working (code 10)
The device is not present - it is because it is attached.
The device is not working - I have successfully installed this on my Win XP
machine and it does work.
Does not have the drivers installed - needless to say I have tried to
reinstall, to no avail.

If you have successfully overcome a similar problem, or can offer some
advice I would be most grateful.

Paul,

I had the very same problem--strike that--I *have* the very same
problem. I was told by the people at Netgear that if I could delete the
additional adapters that I had on my system, then the Netgear W111 would
"bind" with the system and I would have an IP address to connect wirelessly.
However, once I removed one of the four additional adapters and disabled
another two, I discovered I had the same problem. My inclination after
looking on the net and discovering that this adapter has been very poorly
reviewed is to return it and look for a better adapter. So my question to
the community is this--what wireless adapter works well with Windows 98? I'm
working with a D-Link Wireless Router that Verizon gave me when I received
their FIOS service, if that matters.

Oh, and I'm seriously computer-challenged, so the simpler your answer,
the better!

Peace,

Matthew

I was told Win98 doesn't work on USB connected Routers, Access Point, etc...
and that you have to use the Win98 Machines Hard Wired or through a Wireless
Card that does *not* connect through the USB Port.
And from what I've read since on this, it seems to be true.
