Message to Curt - Windows 98 attempting to load then fails
Curt,
Sorry for my late reply - tried scanreg /restore and got bad command or file name message. Any other suggestions? M Hi Martin, You might try restoring a good copy of your Registry, *prior* to running QuickClean. Re-boot your machine, and hold down the CTRL key until a menu comes up. From the options given select "Command Prompt Only" From the Command prompt type "scanreg /restore" (without the quotes). Select a copy of the Registry PRIOR to running QuickClean. Re-boot your machine, and see if that cures it. Post back with your results. **There is a space between scanreg and the / ** HTH, Curt |

Hi Martin, Did you put a space in the command as I mentioned.
Should be: scanreg /restore That is scanreg (space)/restore You need a space before the / and no space between / and restore. Note to other responders: the Original post was on 5-23-2004 in the A.M. Hi Martin,
I'm not sure where to respond, as you have two threads going now. A great deal of us in this NG don't care too much for McAfee products, but the concern with QC is the Registry Cleaner aspect. All/any "Registry Cleaners" *must* be run with caution. They have the potential of mucking things up far worse than no cleaning at all. Give this a try. At the command prompt, type: cd\windows\command, and then press ENTER. At the C: prompt, type scanreg /restore, and then press ENTER. Any luck? Hi Martin,
This is baffling. I'll keep looking. I'll post back what I find to this thread. Hi Martin,
Sorry it's taken so long to get back to you. Let's try something just slightly different. 1) Re-start your computer, and immediately after the POST press and hold the Ctrl key until the Start Menu appears 2) Select "Command Prompt Only" 3) At the C:\ type "Scanreg/restore" without the quotes. Note the uppercase S and no space necessary between scanreg and the /. After you have typed that press "Enter" on your keyboard. 4) You should be presented with 5 copies of previous Registries. Select one by date, not by file name. Do NOT select any entry beginning with "RBAD" Please post back Martin, and let me know how it goes. -- Curt--and NOT the MVP Curt Christianson (I wish!)
