Windows won't start
the restore did not work... I rebooted with the start-up
floppy, then chose the command prompt, the cd to c\windows\command, then did the restore... it said it was successful yet still there was no Windows. I can look at the windows directory from dos and all my files are still there I'm just missing that one step to Windows... any suggestions so that I don't have to wipe out and start over? -----Original Message----- thanks Don - I will try this tonight at home (I'm at work) I'll let you know how it goes. Boy talk about learning the hard way! -----Original Message----- Oh dear, you cant just delete IE. It is part of the OS. What you should try now is reboot with your windows start-up floppy, (you did make one didn't you) and at the command prompt type " scanreg /restore" (note the space between g+/). You should get five restore dates to choose from, pick one from before this happened and preferably before you tried to install IE6. This is NOT the same as System Restore. If that don't work you may have to format your hard drive and reinstall ME. "bmarsh" wrote in message ... I had trouble installing IE6 so deleted it, was going to restart my computer and reinstall it. When I restarted all I got was my wallpaper - NO Windows ME. There are no folders, no start menu, no toolbars. All I can do is shutdown. When selecting CTRL+ALT+DEL the only thing it shows is csinject, closing that alone does no good either. Starting in safe mode makes no difference, system restore did no good and even trying to reinstall Windows ME won't work because it states I already have a Windows program installed and when attempting a custom install it says I do not have enough memory. I'm afraid I know just enough about computers to get myself in trouble so I am hoping someone out there can see through my messy attempts and help me to straighten this out! Does anyone have any ideas? . . |

Windows won't start
I don't understand, what do you mean you chose the command prompt?
When I said at the command prompt that is where is says A: when booting is finished! A: being the floppy drive. but it does not matter. it ran and it did not work. I think you may have to format and reinstall, sorry I have no other advice for you. I cannot understand why ME wont install over itself, it is a common practice, but I suspect you actually deleted IE6 instead of uninstalling it which means nearly all the stuff in the registry etc is still preventing the install. Do you have a start button? is the run command box there? if it is and the computer you are using at the moment has very fast connection, you can download the full version of IE6 (75mb), burn it to CD and try run it from the start | run on the problem PC. You can get from he http://browsers.evolt.org/?ie/32bit/6.0 But I would consider format and reinstall as a more practical solution. "bmarsh" wrote in message ... the restore did not work... boy I did it up good! what I meant was when I started
with the reboot floppy I had to choose shift+F5 I think it was (it had 4 choices safe mode, w/cd rom, wo/cd rom, minimal boot) I tried reinstalling and it said I didn't have enough memory. Is there anything I could delete? No I don't have start, run or any buttons. boy oh boy -----Original Message----- I don't understand, what do you mean you chose the command prompt?
