How to Boot Windows 98 in Safe Mode
My Windows 98 SE system is hanging up at the Windows
banner page. If I unplug it from AC power and bootup on battery I can see that it is actually hanging at the MacAfee memory virus scan point. If I could boot up in "safe mode" I'll uninstall MacAfee and the hangup should go away, i.e., it should boot normally. Can anyone tell me how to boot up in SAFE MODE? - Mike |

How to Boot Windows 98 in Safe Mode
Hold down the Control key while booting up. Been unable
to figure out at exactly what point, but if you do it too soon, the worst think you get is the stuck key error, with options to Boot Up (F1) or do setup (f10). If you see this screen, hit F1 and then immediately hold down the control key. This should bring up the Safe Mode selection screen. -----Original Message----- My Windows 98 SE system is hanging up at the Windows banner page. Safe Mode should be indicated in the four corners. The other way is to hold down the ctrl key as soon as you see some text when booting, You will get the boot menu, use the spacebar to stop the count down then select Safe mode.
