Default Sluggish performance

About a week ago my computer started suddenly being very
sluggish. Slow to change pages, slow loading of photos,
etc. Temp files, cookies have all been cleaned. All
unnecessary programs have been removed to free memory.
Scandisk and defrag ran cleanly. Spyware removed and
virus scan run without problems. What would cause it to
seemingly overnight start running so slowly?

You may have a virus/spyware hijack

download the Stinger from here and run it to make sure that A-V-disabling
viruses are not present on your PC
http://download.nai.com/products/mca...rt/stinger.exe

- update your virus scanner and run a full system scan of all files.

Reboot to Safe Mode and run CWShredder - to remove variants of the
CoolWebSearch hijacker.

Use CWShredder, the removal tool:

http://www.merijn.org/files/CWShredder.exe
http://www.spywareinfo.com/downloads...CWShredder.exe
http://www.zerosrealm.com/downloads/CWShredder.zip

download AdAware from www.lavasoftusa.com, install, update, and run it to
remove spyware, adware,
and other such nasties from your system.

See if that helps, and what it reports - than post back

Ok, I did everything that you suggested. Stinger picked
up nothing. Then after downloading the cwshredder, I ran
it and it found 4 things and removed them. After that I
downloaded the updated version of Adaware (I had an older
version). It took about 2 hours to run but it found 174
things that I deleted. Several of the things that Adaware
found said in the *type* column that they were
vulnerability and when I right-clicked it said "possible
browser hijacker". That is the first time Adaware has
ever found anything like that when I ran it. So all of
that is done. I rebooted and it's still slow to change
pages. Not as slow as before but still slower than it's
been in the past. Any more suggestions?
