Default Help and Support and boot records

Okay so first of all when ever i try to get into helpand support it takes
forever for it to load and then when it does it says something like "help and
support error send this number to microsoft" or something like that and the
number is something like this "22541139" or some thing but i know it starts
with "225" but then when i type something into the serch box it will do
nothing but sit there until i exit out of the helpand support it is really
weird and i am getting really mad at it cause when ever i need something off
of it it will not do the help and suport. The second thing is that when ever
i scan it for viruses with norton system works it still scan for viruses and
everything but the thing that is bothering me is it comes up as "1 master
boot record and 2 boot records" now i think it used to be a windows
95(consedering i found an old ticket of Authenticity and a book saying
"Introducing Microsoft Windows 95") before it was upgraded to windows ME and
its hdd space is only 4.02GB and my 98 has 7.02GB of hard drive space in it
and so i was just wondering if it might have a hidden OS in it and if it does
how to get to it so i can have a double OS computer and to choose which OS i
want to use at startup.

It would have been nice to know the exact error number being returned when
you try to use Help & Support together with the exact error message, however
you might wish to try the following although the error here is:
"The initialization of the Help Center failed.
Please report the following error number to Microsoft support: -2147143679".

This error, the one I mention above, is often caused by installing the
KB911562 hotfix from the Windows Update site on a system with MDAC 2.8
installed and can usually be fixed as follows:

Download and install MDAC 2.8 SP1 from
http://download.microsoft.com/downlo...f/MDAC_TYP.EXE
Check whether you can now access Help & Support. You should hopefully now
be able to do this.

Now visit the Windows Update site download and install KB911562 again.
Don't worry the patch for MDAC 2.8 SP1 has none of the problems associated
with the patch for MDAC 2.8 which is I suspect the version you are running
at present.

Please post back and let us know how you got on.

Oh dear! I've just re-read your message and noticed that you have chosen to
install and use Norton's System Destroyer. A product that is totally
incompatible with Win Me and that has a track record of causing more damage
and problems to system running Win Me than all the viruses that were
released during the life of Win Me (2000-2006). If you choose to continue
to use System Destroyer you are on your own and won't find any solutions
here other than to uninstall and dump Destroyer.

Mike is being harsh. Norton is great for increasing IT's income at $125 an
hour. As far as remnants of old OSs, it's doubtful, but run msconfig and
under system.ini look at the boot list. There should be no duplication of
items.

This normal if you have a hard drive divided into two partitions.

now i think it used to be a windows
95(consedering i found an old ticket of Authenticity and a book saying

You'll probably need a third party application for this.

have a look here for assistance with both the Norton problem - and the
Help & Support problem......

1) Norton
http://crashfixpc.co.uk/ME_Gen/Norto...blem_in_ME.htm
- note that NSD is/was part of Norton System Utilities and System
Works (one of the biggest misnomers known to man!)

2) H&S....
a common problem at one time - as Mike says, download and install the
MDAC update, and if that doesn't fix the problem (or another reappears
in its place) look here
