Default Lexmark Printer X3480 and WinMe

I have this All in One Printer. It includes a Scanner
and a Fax utility.
The Fax utility very rarely works. Most of the time
its error is "Modem not available"
In XP the fax set-up automatically pick up the Modem's name and port but in
WinMe it only says"Modem found on Port 3" which is correct it cannot pick
the name of the modem in the set-up page. the set-up page entry
in the fax utility cannot be edited manually.

Can any user of this type printer can help?
Thanks.

If Lexmark can't help, you can scan to file and use a third party fax app
like Phonetools. If you're in an office with an actual fax machine,
disconnect it from it's phone line.
I mastered Wordstar graphics!

Lexmark have been notorious for the 'quality' of their drivers since I don't
know when!
From what I can make out, current Lexmark drivers for this machine do not
support ME (whether they actually support XP and vista is open for debate,
but.... g)
I'll ping a friend and see if they can offer any hope

I use an X2600 model with my Vista H/P and it is working excellently.
Don't know about WinME, but was thinking of switching with the Brother MFC
7220 currently attached to ME. H.

I'll ping a friend and see if they can offer any hope

The Marking on the box says

Windows98/Me
Windows 2000
Windows XP (32 bit)
Windows XP (64 bit)

Your comments are more appropriate.
Light printing is ok otherwise the
error message "Printer is busy or being
used by an other application" is very common.
And more over it is bit expensive since
single cartrige is about £25.00.

You may be able to help me.

My Modem is MSP3880SP-W 56K and is on COM3
port.
When I enter the name of Port as COM3 it rejects and
asks " The name of the port must be at least
%d characters in length.

What this " %d characters" means.
Thank you

The followng looks like a good site for troubleshooting your modem....
http://uk.ts.fujitsu.com/rl/services.../3880SP-W.html

Hmmm - about your error message...... have you enabled IPX on th e
mdoem? (don't!) - the only reference I can find to a similar error
message seems to imply that this may be related.

This is 'old hat', but, have those of you using Lexmark printers disabled
their 'phone home' feature? Although, Lexmark swears it is used only to
track usage and cartridge info, it includes the serial number and other
identifiable items on registered printers. To me, this is simply spyware.
For details on how to remove the tracking/usage info, just Google "Lexmark
phone home" or "Stop Lexmark spyware", etc...........it is an easy fix.

If I recall correctly, that's one of the first things I did, H.
But 'it's a good thing' you mentioned it.

Harry.

Just took a second look at my firewall settings in Vista for Lexmark and
they are excellent, I must say. The incoming traffic is monitored and no
outgoing traffic for Lexmark taking place on my machine, IOW, no complaints
here.
I was told laying asphalt down will solve all your 'mowing' problems bg.
