Word 2000 won't stay open
I'm unable to open the program after a few years of use. The program boots up and displays Document 1 but then a message states "Winword has caused an error in winword.exe . Windword will now close"
I've uninstalled the program and re-installed the program from the disks provided by Dell. The same problem still exists. Any help would be appreciated. TIA -- Jeff |

Word 2000 won't stay open
I was able to delete a couple variations of normal.dot but not the actual named file could not be deleted or moved. A message said the file may in use but Word was shutdown.

Word 2000 won't stay open
Nobody is suggesting you try and use Word in Safe Mode but rather that you
delete ALL copies of normal.dot in Safe Mode since you earlier said you were unable to delete one of your normal.dot files because it was "in use". Until you remove the corrupt version of normal.dot you will continue to experience problems with Word. -- Mike Maltby bluenose9901 wrote: The same problem happens in Safe mode. Word 2000 won't stay open
Err... I think Noel means 'Reboot to Safe Mode and try *deleting ALL
normal.dot templates* again!! Take a look at the MS Knowledge Base article :- "WD2000: Invalid Page Fault When Normal.dot Is a Document" http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;211541 A corrupted normal.dot template file is one of the most commonest reasons for Word not opening. Best of luck Mart "bluenose9901" wrote in message ... The same problem happens in Safe mode. Word 2000 will not stay up. -- Jeff "Noel Paton" wrote: Reboot to Safe Mode and try again |

Thanks to all who responded. my first attempt to delete the normal.dot files while in the "safe mode" were not sucessful. my second attempt was sucessful and Word 2000 is up and running again.
Help was much appreciated. -- Jeff "Mike M" wrote: Nobody is suggesting you try and use Word in Safe Mode but rather that you delete ALL copies of normal.dot in Safe Mode since you earlier said you were unable to delete one of your normal.dot files because it was "in use".
