Default Delete files in Temp\system Restore?

Hi
I have a system that has over 50000 files in the Temp/System Restore
folder--mostly ending in the suffix CPY.

I am confused as to whether the files in the folder are needed or not
and am looking for info on the subject.

Thanks in Advance
Joe
