DKabppls.exe

This file in Windows/system (312KB) opens on startup (Win98 6.0).

Strangely, I can't find any mention of it on GOOGLE or Microsoft Help.

Is it a 'legit' program ? Do I need it ? Do I need it to run on startup ?
The reason I'm asking is there are 2 'windows' that hang up this computer on
shutdown and I get the warning window: "..stopped responding...WAIT ?
END
TASK?" but both have NO NAME at the top so I don't know what they are,
where, or why they're running and often WAIT or END TASK won't get it done.
Neither will CTL ALT DEL X2..
Then I have to power down to shut down which is not a good thing..

I ve pulled the list of Running Programs from CTL/ALT/DEL and this one is
the 'most suspect" ?

Any ideas ?

Do you have a Dell , laser printer?
If so the file is probably legit.
Right click on the file and look at the properties...
report back if you have any further questions.

BTW: Though I doubt it's a virus, it never hurts to run a virus scan
with a recently updated virus checker

Do you have a Dell , laser printer?

Or a Lexmark printer? Was such a printer ever installed?

Have done with AVG 7.5 and also ran SPYBOT and Ad-Aware, finding no
problems. No sign of a DELL in printers. The ADD/Remove shows some "Dell
software" but it wont remove it, referring to DELL drivers on Disk "D".
There is no trace of DELL in any normal folder I can find. Probably removed
(and not UNINSTALLED) by previous owner.

Of course your answer has now appeared the instant I replied to your other
post about you not answering.
Sheesh.

If the previous owner had a Dell printer, and you do not use one...
and cannot uninstall the software...
then I suggest running msconfig and taking anything loading that's
associated with that printer
out of startup.
It's absolutely not needed there and once removed from startup
you can reboot...save the configuration change...then hopefully your machine
will shut down
without hanging.

This application is apparently associated with a DELL laser printer - a
W5200n XL or W5300n XL. My guess is that it's a supplementary utility -
perhaps it monitors the printer status and gives progress messages about the
print job, or it provides you with a printer management utility.

If you don't have this printer, delete it in the printers applet and
uninstall all associated utilities. Otherwise, just uninstall the utilities.
Or download the latest set of drivers and delete then reinstall the printer.

Your google searching should have returned this result - are you sure your
www connection is working properly?

If you want things REALLY clean, do a search for "DELL" or
"Lexmark" (they use a lot of re-branded Lexmarks as PA said)
and/or the file you mentioned /in the registry/, remove /all/
references to it, and find (somewhere in the Windows directory)
and remove the file itself as well as (/some/ caution advised
here) any other files with the exact same date and time -
especially if they are DELL files :-)

If there is a Dell printer directory on your system, delete the
whole thing.

I doubt you will have any new problems after doing this. For
safety, COPY all the things I said instead of deleting them
entirely (you can save registry branches to some directory from
regedit, THEN delete them in the registry, and if needed, double
clicking on the saved .reg files will put them back in).

If I were you, I would ***DEFINITELY*** reformat, fdisk,
partition, and reinstall everything. EIGHT YEARS! P R E V I O U

There isnt any trace of the printer or its utilities..Just the files in
Windows/System that all begin with DKappXXX which on checking 'properties'
reveals they are all associated with DELL/LEXMARK

I suppose I'll just have to delete them as I can't 'uninstall'

Your google searching should have returned this result - are you sure your
www connection is working properly?

Seems to be working fine..GOOG only returned 2 vague unusable refs to
DKabppls.exe
Same on both computers.

neither

Problem is, I don't have the disks to reinstall everything. There are
several programs that came on the HP like the CD player and Disk burner as
well as the Ethernet card thats running now (the drivers of which, and the
old ISA NIC that I left in AZ for the season: 1600 miles away)

All I have is a Win98SE disk but nothing else for all the other software on
the machine. I'll slowly work my way thru it
