Default \\WXP-PC is not accessible

A W2KSP4 US Laptop (assume its name is "Laptop1") and a W98SE US
desktop PC ("PC-B") have been sharing without a problem for
years, between themselves and with the other PCs in the office.

Now when trying to add a new WXPHome FR Laptop ("Laptop2"), that
new laptop has no problem seeing files in other PCs, but when
from the W98SE in Windows Explorer I double-click on the WXPH
FR, I get the windowlet:
________________________________________________
| Exploring - Network Neighborhood
|________________________________________________
| \\LAPTOP2 is not accessible
| X
| The computer or sharename could not be found. Make
| sure you typed it correctly, and try again.
|
| | OK |
|________________________________________________

So I applied the various tips provided around, including
disabling "Master Browse" (Network Neighborhood-Right click,
Properties, Configuration, File and printer sharing for
Microsoft networks-Double click, Advanced, Property, Master
Browse = Disabled), no avail.

Since the WXPH is "FR", its default Guest account is "Invité"
(stupid translation!), so I created another one named "Guest",
with no PWD. Anyway I want everyone can Read-only the shared
folders in Laptop2, without having to change user to "Invité" or
"Guest" or whatever else. In addition in W98SE adding another
User is annoying, and in TweakUI \Logon, changing name and PWD
is sometimes prevented (don't know why).

TIA for any advice.
