Default Product Key Edit Help Needed

Hi everyone,
I need some help here. A friend brought her gateway computer to my place to
see if I could fix it and when I start it up it asks me for the product key.
I had put the product key in it that she had found and it turned out to be
the wrong one even though it let me do it. I need to go back in and edit it
and put the correct one in. I had come across somewhere in how to do it but
I cant find the info on it now. Does anyone know how I would go to the edit
area for this? The computer is a gateway with windows 98 on it. Thanks.

You can leave it the way it is, the one you want to change it to may
be wrong. If you want to change it it's in the Registry. Start Run
and enter Regedit. Navigate to this key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion

Look for ProductKey in the right pane and right click it and modify.

Backup the Registry first by booting to Dos and entering:
Scanreg /backup.
If needed the backed up Registry can be restored with
Scanreg /restore.
