Default Paint and Other Imaging Programs

Whenever I try to open JPEG, BMP, or GIF images using
Paint I receive the following error message:

"Paint cannot read this file.
This is not a valid bitmap file, or its format is not
currently supported."

All three of those?
MSPaint should open BMP but will not open JPEG or GIF unless you have
installed the necessary filters as may be installed by MS Office and
other programs.

No idea how you could install them in a Microsoft Update session.
They are normally installed in Office or similar and I am not aware of
any Microsoft Update that would install them (outside of Office etc.)

Try reinstalling Office or Word or whatever similar application you
may have had or try seeking help from an Office group.

You can try here (not personally tried)

Hi Michael,
You might also consider downloading and installing IrfanView. It's free,
and a very flexible viewer. It can *do* much more than the 3 formats you
mentioned.
