(laptop) Will not run in safe mode (help!)
After mistakenly trying to connect into an external data projector, when
the projector was turned off, I find that (after scandisk) although winME runs apparently normally, it will not run in Safe Mode! In safe mode, at the point of the display appearing on the screen, an error message appears ========================== An error has occurred. To continue, press Enter to return to windows or press ctrl alt del to restart your computer..... (etc) Error: 06 : 002 : 00001EDD Press any key to continue ========================== When Enter is pressed the safe mode screen is shown, but with a corrupted upper part and the laptop touchpad does not move the cursor. Machine: Dell laptop Inspiron 8000 I would be most grateful for comments here tia -- ac |

It sounds like you may have only damaged/corrupted your graphic driver
files - let's hope you haven't physically damaged your PC. It might be prudent to confirm this by booting with your WinMe Startup (floppy) Disk and select Option 1) the DOS Help page, and check that it displays OK (your touchpad probably won't work in DOS) In fact your touchpad *may not* even work in Safe Mode - use a ps/2 mouse if you have one and then re-boot into Safe Mode and if possible navigate to Device Manager and remove any/all Display Adapters and Monitors. (Be sure that you've got a copy of the original Dell Video and display drivers - hopefully supplied with your PC) If you can't do this in Safe Mode (navigation issues), you'll have to do it in Normal Mode Re-boot and when asked, install the video drivers. Hopefully, this should get your screen back. BTW - are you sure the error code was 06 : 002 : xxx and not 06 : 0028 : xxx? It just seems an odd error report. Good luck Mart "ac" wrote in message ...
