Default Questions on anti-virus programs

Hello everyone:

After 2 years on being on dial up, I Just switched to high speed MSN with
DSL.
The package came with McAfee AV & Firewall. After installing *McAfee AV* I
noticed a complete slowdown in my computer. Had to remove it. (Did not
install the firewall).

My questions a
1) Am I right in just trusting Avast4 as an AV? I haven't had any problems
while on dial up & none in the few days with DSL.
2) Are there any other AV programs someone may recommend that are not "hogs"
in using computer resources? (I know Norton is "out"!!).
3) I'm also using CCleaner, Spywareblaster, Spybot Search & Destroy, &
Ad-Aware SE Personal. Shouldn't all of these be enough?
Running Windows ME , IE 6 SP1 on Broadband MSN DSL.

Thanks,
Ed

Choose one anti-virus and one firewall -
http://www.pricelesswarehome.org/200...07SECURITY.php
the rest is personal choice and what you are using sounds top notch.

I've been on cable for several years Ed and am using Avast without any
problem. I agree that with all the other stuff you have installed, you ought
to be well enough protected.

Question here also,
Running Windows ME , IE 6 SP1, with subscription of CA etrust AV, been
getting notification of update. Apparently, v8, mine is v7.1.8.0.
Anybody have this update installed? Should I update?

I just checked mine (and I am using XP btw).....but I have version
8.4.... on here. If yours is working OK, then I would be tempted not to
upgrade. But do make a Restore Point before you upgrade and then if you
don't like it, you can uninstall it and go back to your version 7.

That is assuming that you download your programs UNOPENED as I do and I
activate them from my Downloads Folder. Years with WinME taught me
that, grin. More than once, I have uninstalled the latest and greatest
of a program and gone back to a version that plays nice with WinME.

FWIW.....there is a website called Old Version and they have earlier
versions of a ton of proggies that might be right up your alley. I will
get the link.... http://www.oldversion.com/

Cheers....Heather

Thanks Heather, I think I'll stay status quo, things are working fine & don't
want to upset my old computer. Next year maybe purchase new hardware.
Thanks for the link also.
