When did you last check your system using your preferred antivirus
application? I ask because such behaviour is one of the signs of being infected with the Magistr virus. First however you might want to check your PC using one of the online virus checks such as McAfee's (http://us.mcafee.com/root/mfs/default.asp) or Trend Micro's Housecall (http://housecall.antivirus.com). If indeed you do have the Magistr virus see http://www.sophos.com/virusinfo/analyses/w32mag.html http://www.f-secure.com/v-descs/magistr.shtml and http://vil.nai.com/vil/content/v_99040.htm#Symptoms for details of how to clean your system. If you don't have an AV application installed then you should seriously think about doing so. Suitable products include NOD32, AVG and eTrust (Computer Associates) to name but three including: a) AVG (Free version) from GriSoft (http://www.grisoft.com/us/us_dwnl_free.php) b) eTrust from Computer Associates. This is an excellent low cost AV program that I and many others contributing to these NGs are using. eTrust and EZArmor are FREE to new users for one year until Jan 2005 (see http://www.my-etrust.com/microsoft/index.cfm) EZArmor is a rebadged version of Zone Alarm v3.x which can cause Win Me's system restore to stop making automatic system checkpoints. -- Mike Maltby MS-MVP vic wrote: I have floating icons on the crt, and makes it hard at times to click on the one I want.
